The Library program at St Mary’s has been designed to meet a need for a comprehensive, sequential Library Skills program that includes literature as well as information skills. It focuses on skills specifically related to libraries, and lesson content wherever practical ,focuses on the Integrated Studies units being taught in each level.
Library lessons run on as follows
.
RETURNS
Library books are to be returned the day prior to your lesson to allow for processing and shelving after school. They can be sent anytime . This allows for late returns and better use of library aide time. Monday classes return books first thing after Monday assembly.
LIBRARY BAGS
Each student should have a Library bag. Lost bags can be purchased from the office. Plastic bags are not a long term alternative.
REQUESTS
Staff requests for staplers, the hole punch, videos, digital camera etc are welcome throughout the day. However to minimize interruptions to library lessons we please ask you to place a note on the circultaion desk (loan desk) or to email requests. These are both checked regularly throughout the day Written requests are simply placed in this by the bearer of the message and we will deal with it ASAP.

PLANNING
The content of Library information skill lessons are based around your levels Integrated Studies unit. The focus is normally on the ‘finding out’ and ‘sorting out’ stage of the inquiry process and we would be happy to tailor lesson content to fit in with your level’s particular needs. We are always available to attend appropriate Level meetings to more accurately determine how the Library can assist staff in achieving student outcomes and to provide a Library program that complements activities happening in class.

CENTRALISED RESOURCES POLICY
St Mary’s has a centralised resources policy in place. This means that all resources purchased must be catalogued through the library. This avoids unnecessary duplication of expensive resources, utilises funds more efficiently and means all staff are aware of the full range of materials available in the school.
If staff through their POL would like to order items they should check with library staff to ensure we don’t already hold the item or something similar. Once items arrive, they are then processed through the Library and lent out to the appropriate staff member.
